The opening of this elegant boutique in the 6th arrondissement owes nothing to chance: the (young) Maison Khel had to join the district of publishers and creators of upholstery fabrics.

What better place to discover the splendours of the Silk Road than Saint-Germain-des-Prés? It all started in Uzbekistan, with a crush on the magic of Ikat. Amazed by an ancestral know-how, transmitted in family workshops that resisted the Soviet period, the “Khel sisters” speak with passion about their multiple cushions, lampshades and custom-made curtains, armchairs, furniture pieces, lifestyle accessories that open new horizons for Ikat, by combining Uzbek know-how with French creation… The silk comes from the Ferghana Valley, the velvet of the Bukhara region. The fabrics are available in a wide range of cheerful and luminous tones. Although part of Ottoman culture, these hand-crafted creations are different from it, leaving the traditional straitjacket. “We do not offer ethnic products. The themes are revisited, brought up to date, in correspondence with contemporary sensibility.” Up to now, only available to interior design professionals, Maison Khel’s products are now accessible to everybody. A godsend!
