Unchanged since 1880! With its coveted south-facing terrace and its unique and unobstructed view of the majestic Saint-Sulpice church, the Café de la Mairie is a must on the Rive Gauche. The current owner, who arrived in 1960, is keen to preserve the spirit of the Café: “authentic and unpretentious” he says. Unpretentious yes, but in a unique place all the same! Thus, it is the photo of Jean-Pierre Bacri, installed on the first floor, which was chosen to make the front page of Paris Match and Perec devoted a long passage to it in the book Tentative d’épuisement d’un lieu parisien. The same floor which, between meetings with publishers and film shoots, has been hosting Les Mardis Littéraires for 25 years. Traditional dishes are served continuously in the purest Parisian brasserie style. This family business remains the only café facing the famous fountain, built barely 40 years before the opening of the “Café de la Mairie”!
